Volunteering at AMOCA is a great way to learn more about ceramics, meet people with similar interests, and share your enthusiasm for ceramic art with visitors. Volunteers are an important part of AMOCA’s culture and an essential part of making our museum a success. Volunteer applications are accepted year-round.

Volunteer Opportunities

Docents – Docents (volunteer tour guides) conduct educational tours and lessons for student groups and adults visiting the museum. AMOCA welcomes an average of 2-3 student groups a week. To find out more about becoming a docent and to apply, click here.

Special Projects Volunteers – Assisting with hands-on projects for school groups, providing support at in-person events and receptions, greeting and assisting museum visitors, and helping with general office tasks are all potential jobs for volunteers. There is no minimum time commitment, and a vast selection of jobs is available. To apply, click here.

Collection Volunteers – AMOCA’s permanent collection, library, and digital resources require thousands of hours of maintenance every year to keep them categorized and accessible. Collection volunteers may work in the library, the permanent collection storage facilities, the photography studio, the archives, and/or the collection office. They assist with recording, archiving, care taking, organizing, and moving our growing permanent collection. In addition, collection volunteers are needed to assist in the maintenance of the Helen and Roger Porter Resource Library books. Collection volunteers will be trained in their specific tasks and must commit to volunteering for at least 10 hours a week for 3-6 months. Note: AMOCA is not currently accepting applications for Collection volunteers.

Studio Volunteers – The AMOCA Ceramics Studio is a growing, vibrant community of potters and ceramic artists of all levels. Studio volunteers assist with processing clay, cleaning and maintaining the studio, assisting with sales to students and studio residents, and helping complete other odd jobs around the studio. Work may entail lifting and carrying heavy ceramic materials. Studio volunteers should have some background in ceramics and be willing to commit to volunteering at least once a month. Note: AMOCA is not currently accepting applications for Studio volunteers.
