Beginning Wheel Throwing – Spring 2022

Join Artist in Residence Colby Charpentier for a beginning wheel throwing (Spring, 2022) course designed to teach the fundamentals of working with clay on the potter’s wheel—no prior experience is necessary. Students will be introduced to basic throwing shapes, as well as the follow-up steps of trimming, handle making, and glazing.
Classes meet once a week for 2.5 hours in the AMOCA Ceramics Studio for six weeks (15 hours of total instruction), and are limited in size to ten students.
Refunds are not allowed after the course begins. Refunds requested during the week prior to the start of the class will be honored at 50%. Refunds requested prior to this will be honored minus Eventbrite fees. If you would like to request a refund, email studio@amoca.org.
Every student is required to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination on the first day of class. If a student cannot provide proof of vaccination, the student will be unable to continue with the class. In this case, refunds will not be allowed. Thank you in advance for your understanding!

Meet Your Instructor: Colby Charpentier
Charpentier received his M.F.A. from the Cranbrook Academy of Art (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and his B.F.A. from Alfred University (Alfred, NY). He has served as a resident artist at the Morean Center for Clay (St. Petersburg, Florida), Sonoma Ceramics (Sonoma, CA), and most recently the Harvard Ceramics Program (Boston, MA). Charpentier has taught at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Boston, MA) and the Harvard Ceramics Program (Boston, MA), and been the recipient of numerous awards. Most recently, he was awarded the top prize at the International Porcelain Design Competition, the Franz Rising Star Award. Charpentier will be in residence October 2021–April 2022.
